What are my options?
There are two options you can pursue before the BCH fork:
-
You can hold the BCH in your Poloniex account as is. After the fork, your BCH will be converted into equivalent amounts of BCHABC and BCHSV. For example, if you hold 5 BCH, you will receive 5 BCHABC and 5 BCHSV.
-
You can convert your BCH into BCHABC and BCHSV before the fork and trade those tokens in the BTC and USDC markets.
Can I withdraw BCHABC and BCHSV before the fork?
No, but you are able to convert these tokens back to BCH and then withdraw BCH. Please note that the conversion ratio is 1 BCHABC + 1 BCHSV = 1 BCH. For example, if you had 1 BCHABC and 1 BCHSV, you could convert them into 1 BCH. However, if you had 2 BCHABC and 1 BCHSV, you would only be able convert 1 BCH, and would have 1 BCHABC remaining.
Can I withdraw BCHABC and BCHSV after the fork?
Yes, as soon as the networks stabilize you will be able to withdraw your tokens to another exchange or wallet that supports the corresponding fork (BCHABC or BCHSV). We anticipate that most exchanges will support a single fork (either “SV” or “ABC”) and continue using the BCH designation. If you are withdrawing to an exchange, please ensure it is running on the correct fork (i.e. you must send your BCHSV to an exchange that supports the “SV” fork of BCH).
What will happen to my existing Bitcoin Cash (BCH) after the fork?
Prior to the hard fork, Poloniex will disable the BCH markets and take a snapshot at 15:00 UTC. At that time, your BCH will be converted into equivalent amounts of BCHABC and BCHSV. For example, if you hold 5 BCH, you will receive 5 BCHABC and 5 BCHSV.
Will you continue to support both chains after the fork?
We will support both chains as long as they remain technically and economically viable after the fork. If only a single chain remains viable, we may rename it BCH.
What if the fork doesn't happen?
If the fork truly does not happen, it would be because one of the development teams (ABC or SV) decided to entirely abandon their position and revert to the other side. If that does happen then the value of the abandoned fork will trend towards zero and the value of the predominant fork should trend closer to the value of BCH prior to the fork. Poloniex will then change the name of the tokens in the predominant fork to "BCH" to avoid naming confusion.
Thus, if you move your BCH into Poloniex, convert it to equal amounts of BCHSV/BCHABC and do not trade then you will have the same amount of BCH as you would if there had not been a fork. If you do trade after the split and end up having more of the predominant fork then you will have the full amount of that token as BCH. If you end up having none of the predominant fork, you will have zero BCH.
