Buy/Long & Sell/Short
With futures contracts, you can choose to go long or short a token.
You will earn profit on a long position if the price of the asset increases.
You will earn profit on a short position if the price of the asset decreases.
Order Type
Poloniex Futures supports three types of orders: a) limit order, b) market order, and c) stop order.
Limit Order: A limit order allows you to buy or sell an asset at the specified price. Simply fill in the price and amount, and then click “Buy/Long” or “Sell/Short” to place a limit order.
Market Order: A market order allows you to buy or sell a futures contract immediately at the market's current best available price. You can enter the order amount and click “Buy/Long” or “Sell/Short” to place a market order.
Stop Order: A stop order is a conditional order that sets to place a limit or market order when the condition set for the target stop price is being triggered. You can select the trigger price type (Last/Mark/Index) and set the stop price, order price, and order amount to place a stop order.
Amount
You can choose how to display the order amount, either in “lot” or currencies such as BTC or ETH. If you choose to switch the unit, the orderbook will change accordingly.
Leverage
Poloniex Futures offers leverage on all of the futures products. Leverage can be used to amplify your gains. The higher the leverage, the greater the earnings potential. But vice versa, with higher leverage come higher risks.
Cost
“Cost” is the amount of initial margin needed to execute an order. Please ensure you have a sufficient balance in your futures account before placing an order.
Advanced Settings
Poloniex Futures offers Advanced Order Settings including “Post Only”, “Hidden/Iceberg”, and “Reduce Only” as well as Time in Force Settings such as “Good till Cancel (GTC)” and “Immediate or Cancel (IOC)”. Please note that these advanced settings are only available for limit or stop orders.
4: Monitor Position
If your order is executed, you can check your position details in the “Positions” section.
Take Profit/Stop Loss: When you set Take Profit or Stop Loss, the order will be executed at the market price when triggered at the pre-set price to help lock in profits or mitigate any loss.
Value: Position value = Lot size * Contract face value * Mark price
Entry Price: Average entry price of your current position. The average entry price of your first position in a market equals its transaction price. And if you open a new position in a market that already has an open position, the average entry price will be the weighted average of the transaction prices of all openings.
Liquidation Price: When the mark price reaches the liquidation price, the position will be liquidated.
Margin: The margin balance for your open position. The leverage is the actual leverage of the current position, and changes along with the unrealized P&L.
Unrealized P&L: The unrealized profit and loss of the current position. Please keep in mind that this is an estimation calculated using the mark price. The percentage indicates the proportion of the profit and loss to the order amount.
Realized P&L: Realized profit/loss of your position.
Auto-Deposit Margin: In Isolated Margin mode, if Auto-Deposit Margin is enabled, funds in your futures wallet will be added to your existing positions whenever a liquidation is about to occur, to prevent your position from being liquidated.
5: Close Position
To close a position, you can click “Limit/Market” directly in the position area.
Close with Market Order: Enter the position size you plan to close, click “Confirm” and your position will be closed at the current market price.
Close with Limit Order: Enter the position size and the price you plan to close at, and click “Confirm” to close your position.
